How reuse works
Our gel is synthetic, so it does not spoil and it does not get thrown away after a shot. When a block is shot up, you melt it back down, pour it into a mold, let it set, and test again. One block becomes up to 10 tests.
Keep a constant heat source at 250°F throughout, then follow the procedure that matches your mold. Larger blocks reform well in a turkey roaster; smaller blocks work in an oven. The accessories page lists the cookers, molds, and release agent these steps call for.
Consistent, melt after melt. Each block is designed to reform to the same FBI BB Calibration Specs, so your results stay comparable test after test.
Maintain a constant 250°F and do not exceed it. Overheating can scorch or break down the gel and creates a burn and fire hazard. Keep the heat source attended for the entire cycle.
Plastic molds
Equipment needed:
- Constant heat source to maintain 250°F
- Aluminum foil
- 770-NC Mold Release Agent by FreKote
- Remove all foreign material from the gel.
- Spray the empty mold with 770-NC mold release agent and let it dry.
- Tear or cut the gel into smaller pieces and place them in the mold.
- Before preheating the oven, cover the oven rack with aluminum foil to disperse heat evenly.
- Molds that do not sit level or flat may need extra foil underneath to level them.
- Heat for 4 to 6 hours, or until the bubbles are gone.
- Let the gel and mold cool for at least 12 hours.
- Once cooled, remove the gel by placing a hand between the mold and the gel while pulling it out.
Metal molds
Equipment needed:
- Constant heat source to maintain 250°F
- Metal mold
- Remove all foreign material from the gel.
- Tear or cut the gel into small pieces and place them in the mold.
- Place the mold into a heat source such as an oven or turkey roaster. If you use a turkey roaster, keep it covered.
- Heat for 4 hours, or until all the bubbles are gone from the center of the gel.
- Let the mold and gel cool for at least 12 hours.
- Once cooled, stand the mold on its end and remove the gel by placing a hand between the mold and the gel while slowly pulling it out.
Clear Ballistics is not responsible for any damage that may occur during the re-melting process.
